Five Finger Death Punch ft. Rob Halford – “Lift Me Up”

Funny thing about Five Finger Death Punch. People seem to either love or hate them. I have yet to find someone who’s on the fence about them. And that’s cool, I guess. Me, I fall into the love category. I have watched this band grow and evolve over six years and three albums, particularly with 2011’s American Capitalist, arguably their best yet. And now they’re putting out TWO albums in 2013??

So, obviously I couldn’t wait to hear the new single “Lift Me Up”. A little birdie told me they’d be playing it at Revolver’s Golden Gods Awards two weeks ago (a trainwreck of a show if ever there was one!), so naturally I was excited. Long story short, sound problems galore plagued them, so the song didn’t sound that great.

Now that I’ve had time to soak in the official iTunes release, I can say that this is one kickass song! Starts out with a killer riff over a driving kick drumbeat, then everything just falls into place. Ivan Moody’s signature growl is there on the verse before the melody of the chorus strikes. It’s a great balance. And then…and only then…the Metal God Himself, Rob Halford takes over on verse two, elevating the song to new heights!

I absolutely LOVE this song, and am eagerly awaiting new double album The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell. Volume 1 will be out July 23rd, with Volume 2 coming this fall. In the meantime, enjoy the single!

RATING: 9/10
