Rocco’s Remote: Daredevil Invades Netflix!!

Apparently, the Marvel Universe wasn’t satisfied with owning the market on superhero movies. Television is already done. They want streaming as well. Which brings us to its latest endeavor, Daredevil. In my ever so humble opinion, Netflix is the way to go. You are able to watch whole seasons at a clip. I’m not sure how that works for the company, but from a fan’s perspective, it enables me to watch as I can. Anytime, anywhere.

Now, as for the actual show, I will say that I was impressed. I was going to watch the first episode and review it but couldn’t stop for a while. As of this writing I’m on episode four. The title character is played aptly by Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire). I like the quiet strength he exudes in this role. His nemesis, Kingpin, is played by none other than Full Metal Jacket and Law & Order: Criminal Intent star Vincent D’Onofrio. Not to spoil anything here but the guy is so good he doesn’t even have to be onscreen until the end of episode three! There are some other pleasant surprises as well in Rosario Dawson and Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood).

Making this into a series instead of a motion picture is an interesting choice here. It allows for a much more in-depth storyline, subplots, etc. as well as a chance to follow different paths into the future. The other time they transitioned this story to the screen, it starred everybody’s favorite Batman, Ben Affleck and wasn’t well-received. I wasn’t much of a comic kid growing up, so I don’t know much about the character, but it would seem to me that it is a pretty popular one. He isn’t an actual “super-hero”. He’s more of a Batman-esque crime fighter.

D’Onofrio is such an amazing actor that I am afraid that I’ll be rooting for the villain more on this one. I think casting Cox was a smart move as well. He is not a name that is plastered all over the tabloids, but instead is a solid guy who has the right look and build for this one. Although his accent was kind of a head scratcher to me. Was that a really toned down Irish brogue? Either way, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.

But, take my advice: Don’t watch them all at once people!!! Then it will be gone and you’ll have to wait a really long time for more. Trust me on this one. I know that of which I speak!
