It’s Saturday night in Calgary, Alberta and KOBRA AND THE LOTUS are about to bring a storm to Dickens Pub in preparation to kick ass as the headliner of Calgary Metalfest IV! With guests Adam Brown of STRIKER on drums, and Bill Hudson (CIRCLE II CIRCLE/JON OLIVA’S PAIN) on guitar, the band hit their hometown with a devastatingly wicked performance that left their fans, both old and new, begging for more.
Singer Kobra Paige coiled herself around the crowd’s attention, holding it with a deadly grip, as the rolling rumbles of Brown and bassist Brad Kennedy shook the bones within the bodies gathered in Dickens Pub, and the on point, face-melting guitar solos of Jasio Kulakowski and Bill Hudson wreaked havoc on everyone in the room.
Kicking off their set to a packed house with the title track of their newest album High Priestess Kobra & Co. hammered their way through a hefty 12-song set, shredding through fan favorites and classic tracks such as “Soldier”,“I Am, I Am”, “Welcome to My Funeral”, “Forever One”, and “50 Shades of Evil”. They also included an APRIL WINE cover, “Sign of the Gypsy Queen” that frontwoman Paige said, “You could say it was written for me.”
There is no denying Kobra Paige’s talent; composing a majority of songs on piano, and a singing voice that could make the most ferocious of lions purr, plus the fact that the support that this heavy metal shaman surrounds herself with shreds and blasts some of the deadliest viper venom. The only known antidote for their bite? You guessed it, more! KOBRA AND THE LOTUS definitely put the cherry on top of another successful year for Calgary Metalfest.
