Staff writer Sarah Mankoff was able to snag a few interviews at the Vans Warped Tour stop in Ventura, CA. Check out two of them below, featuring JULIET SIMMS and SPLITBREED:
Juliet: Totally. Yesterday Kevin Lyman (Warped Tour founder) surprised me and put me on the main stage, which was a huge moment for me. It was my first time playing main stage at Warped, and it was so exciting.
Amps: You were on the tour in 2013 solo, how does it feel to be back with a full band?
Juliet: It feels amazing. It’s so great to be on the stage again with a full on rock and roll band and it feels incredible. It’s been so many years that I haven’t had a full band behind me so I’m just excited to get back out and give fans the music that they’ve been listening to on recordings.
Amps: What are you looking forward to most about the rest of Warped Tour?
Juliet: I honestly look forward to every day- the whole process of meeting the fans, playing the set, meet and greets and all of that.
Amps: And you recently released a new EP, All Or Nothing, which was completely crowdfunded- what can you tell us about that?
Juliet: Well I decided last year to do a PledgeMusic campaign and leave my record label because I wasn’t able to create the music that I wanted to create and what I knew the fans wanted to hear. So I launched the campaign, and it was very successful, made the EP, released it, and I’m looking forward to making a full length very soon.
Amps: Any last words for your fans before we go?
Juliet: I love you guys so much and I seriously don’t know what I would do without you. It’s because of you that I get to keep making music. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
(Members – Taui, Kalani, Bg3nius)
Taui: Yeah and we’re so stoked to be here. It’s only the third day but I can already tell that it’s going to be such a fun tour.
Kalani: The one phrase I’d use right off the bat is “fuckin’ fun.” That’s it. It’s just so fucking fun.
Bg3nius: It’s been such a blast. Everyone’s so cool, the other bands are super chill, we’ve got a really cool bus… It’s going to be a great tour.
Amps: What date are you most excited for?
Taui: I was going to say Las Vegas because that’s our hometown, but they don’t have a Vegas date this year. So probably Atlanta, San Diego, and Philly.
Amps: You guys have an album out right now (Mile High Club Pt. 1), and you’re in the process of creating a new one. What can you tell us about that?
Kalani: Well everyone that listens to our music knows that we’re all about mixing every genre together and pushing boundaries.
Amps: Warped Tour is such a great place for fans to not only see their favorite bands, but to see bands that they haven’t necessarily even heard of before- why should people come out and check out your set?
Bg3nius: Because we go hard as fuck. We turn up the energy level in the crowd so if you come see us you’ll definitely get a workout and have a lot of fun.
Kalani: Yesterday morning we played first on our stage, and everyone was tired and there weren’t a lot of kids in the venue yet. We weren’t looking forward to the set because barely anyone was even there- but when we started playing our energy transferred to the crowd and everyone was jumping and dancing and it was fantastic.
Amps: Have there been any other bands on the tour that you’ve gotten the chance to check out that really stood out to you?
Taui: I saw a really cool band yesterday that really caught me by surprise called ISLES. They have a girl singer and a guy rapper and they were pretty rad. They were pretty dope.
Amps: Any parting words?
Look for more interviews from Sarah Mankoff soon!!
