THE PRETTY RECKLESS rolled into Dallas for a night of rock at Gas Monkey Live. Touring behind just-released new album Who You Selling For, (out now on Razor & Tie), support came from HOLY WHITE HOUNDS and THEM EVILS.
THEM EVILS started up the night. Their hair whipping head bangs brought energy to the stage. I was impressed with this small up and coming band as their guitar riffs excited the crowd. I would not mind seeing them again live.
The less than impressive HOLY WHITE HOUNDS left me feeling bored and unsatisfied. Their saving grace was their humorous, on-stage dialogue in between songs. The members joked back and forth warming up the amused audience. I, however, found their musical style generic and felt like I was hanging out with my uncle’s friends.
THE PRETTY RECKLESS headlined the show. Singer Taylor Momsen reminded us of her dark, sensual character; which is definitely something she has going for her, as she whipped her hair around. I was still a fan of her raspy voice during “Oh My God”, “My Medicine”, and “Heaven Knows” despite her redundant head bangs and pelvic thrusts. After set closer “Take Me Down”, the band came back for encore “Fucked Up World.” Halfway through the song, the band left the stage, leaving the drummer to perform an overly-long solo. After waiting six minutes, the rest of the band appeared once again to finish off the night. Overall, the performance was solid but not all that memorable.
