Nashville Pussy Live At Trees!! – Dallas, TX 2/27/19

It was a cold and dreary night. The sky was overcast and lightly falling was the cold, cold mist brought in from the North. The characters on the street were huddled together sharing a smoke of something or other and giving you the eye as you walked by. I was glad there were others on the street because it was a bit unnerving, not knowing their intentions (and the fact I had money in my wallet and camera gear).

Finally, arriving to my destination, the place was dark. There were some familiar faces at the door and a few patrons inside, but everyone kept their distance. No faces were familiar, not really. Same type of crowd pretty much. The large red curtain was drawn across the stage with the “Trees” logo projected onto it. It looked like Trees Dallas was going to pull off another gig and they were ready.

The curtains parted and one forgot all about the outside, because all the street riff raff had moved in with us. Huh, go figure!! Local Dallas band HIT & RUN hit the stage. They are a fast paced, “punk as fuck” band, who electrified the place and blew us all into the back of the room. After their set I peeled myself off the wall and gathered my wits. It wasn’t any time until SPEEDEALER (also a local troupe) hit the stage. A really tight band, they are on tour with the headliner, and are killer.

Speaking of the band from Atlanta, NASHVILLE PUSSY tore us a new asshole. My first time seeing them, I was a PUSSY virgin. I’ve always wondered what they would be like and after reading somewhere that they were one of the last “truly rock n’ roll bands” I just had to check it out for myself. The band is Blaine Cartwright (lead vocals, guitar), Ruyter Suys (lead guitar), Bonnie Buitrago (bass) and Ben Thomas (drums). Their name taken from TED NUGENT’S Double Live Gonzo! album, dedicated to all that “Nashville Pussy”

The PUSSY machine lubed us up with NUGENT “Stranglehold”, and slowly parted the red curtains. There stands Cartwright and he yells to the crowd “Well, alright, who wants some pussy?” The gals in the band answer “We do!” and the place exploded with “Pussy Time”. Fast paced and no time wasted, next up was “Piece of Ass”. Ruyter Suys shines on this number with a hair pulling solo that sends chills up your backside.

For a solid hour sex, drugs and rock n’ roll ooooozed from the stage and the gang from Georgia pounded us with about half a dozen tunes from their recent album Pleased To Eat You. The night’s set included  “Pillbilly Blues”, “We Want a War”, “She Keeps Me Coming”, and “I Keep Going Back”, “CCKMP”, ten minute “Low Down Dirty Dirty Pig” (featuring a Thomas drum solo), “Struttin’ Cock”, “Keep on Fuckin” and “Go Motherfucker Go”. Needless to say, no Lindsey Buckingham songs here.

Believe me, if you had a shred of decency when you arrived, it was long gone before this one was over. Grab a moist towelette on the way out the door and clean your hands and face, because you just watched your last ounce of virtue melt into vapor. If I were to describe what this band is like to those who have never heard them, I’d say it depends on the song, but they have elements of AIRBOURNE, MOLLY HATCHET, and AMERICAN DOG. Southern rock or psychobilly really doesn’t do them justice. They are better than all of that, and perhaps fit into a slit (slot) all their own.  Salude’
