It’s time once again to talk about a Death Metal album that I’ve been playing the shit out of for days on end. The band is BONE GNAWER and the album in question is their sophomore effort Cannibal Crematorium, out now on Pulverised Records. Nine tracks of bonecrushing death await all those who enter, and these guys play rough. Vocalist Kam Lee sounds like he ate six glass bottles as he growls up and down tunes like opener “Modern Day Cannibal” and my favorite “Chainsaw Carnage”. The album also features an army of special guests, including Dave Ingram (ex-BENEDICTION, ex-BOLT THROWER), Mark Riddick (FETID ZOMBIE), Vincent Crowley (ACHERON), Noel Kemper (GRUESOME STUFF RELISH) among them.

The guitar/bass work of Ronnie Bjornstrom is crisp and clean, but it also slices through you in a heartbeat. Manning the skins is Morgan Lie and again, on “Carnage” he goes for broke. The band really is a cohesive unit, and this album is leagues above their debut which was also great. There’s very much a method to the group’s madness. No gimmicks here, no showing off, just making sick, delicious Death Metal the way it’s supposed to be.

“Horrors In the House of Human Remains” without a doubt has the fiercest riffs on the disc, and “Chawed, Mauled & Gnawed” really gets up in your face threatening to bust your head wide open. Another one I REALLY enjoyed was “Chrome Skull”. There’s an attitude about it that made me want to break things, especially at work. You may feel the same way, who knows? Title track and album closer “Cannibal Crematorium” is textbook Old School Death Metal, and that is 100% a good thing! You’ll probably find yourself coming back to this one over and over, like I did.

The guitar tone on “Carnivore Beneath” is different than the rest of the album, but I dig it. I’m not sure if it was recorded in a different studio or something, but there’s a difference for sure. It’s not bad by any stretch, just…different. “Below a Murder of Carrion Crows” has arguably the nastiest vocal on the record to go with the killer riffage. An excellent song! Overall it appears BONE GNAWER have gone and done it again. With Cannibal Crematorium they’ve given us a Death Metal gorefest that is sure to be on REPEAT in a lot of households for the rest of the year. You guys should definitely buy this one TODAY.
