GEEZER, hailing from Kingston, NY performed a killer set at Ode To Doom at Arlene’s Grocery last Saturday night. Ode to Doom is a Bi-monthly Doom/Sludge metal night produced by Freebird Productions, bringing in the best Sludge/ Stoner rock to NYC!! Other bands on the bill that night were SHADOW WITCH, HEAVY TRAFFIC, and BOOK OF WYRMS.
GEEZER opened up their set with an improvised jam that was really cool, I was diggin’ it and so were the fans mesmerized by the heavy guitar riffs, and heart-pounding drum beats. Their most popular song is “One Leg Up” off their self titled album. It seems to be a crowd pleaser as they ripped into this one, because you could see everyone in the crowd headbanging, hooting and hollering. They also played “Superjam Maximus”, “Sun Gods”, and “Dust”, which is also on that same album released in 2016. Their new disc is Psychoriffadelia and it’s sure to be a success, because GEEZER is unlike any other stoner rock band. They are a heavy blues group with a hard rock edge that will melt your face off.
The boys just recently toured in Europe, and hope to get back there next fall. They also opened up for ZAKK SABBATH earlier this year in May at The Gramercy Theatre, and the band EARTHLESS at St. Vitus in Brooklyn. I asked the band what they have planned for the future. Lead vocalist Pat Harrington stated, “We’ve been focusing on festivals and opening for bigger national bands.”
If you are a fan of Sludge, Doom and Stoner Rock, you need to follow GEEZER. You truly will not be sorry. I see big things happening for these guys and I can’t wait to catch them at their next show. They will be playing at the Doomed and Stoned Festival out in Indianapolis, IN October 7. Follow them on their social media pages for more info.
